News Round Up

Grimsby have released Peter Beagrie by mutual consent, practically ending the career of the oldest outfield player in the Football League. The 40 year old, one month short of his 41st birthday, played 778 times in a career that started in 1983.

Torquay are set to release veteran midfielder Darren Garner, citing his age as the main reason. Garner, 34, joined the club in 2005 but was only given a three month deal at the start of this season. Shrewsbury have extended the contract of striker Michael Symes until the end of the season. Symes, with 5 goals in 12 games, signed from Bradford initially on loan but agreed full terms shortly after.

Scunthorpe boss Brian Laws has told the press that it will take and 'exceptional offer' for him to leave Glandford Park. Laws is on the shortlist of three for the vacant Sheff Weds job, and Bulls loanee Neil Mackenzie may be looking for a brighter future at the club if the management changes.

Grays have sacked manager Frank Gray after Saturday's FA Cup defeat to Bromley. The club had won just two of the last 11 games, and were sitting 9th in the table. Burton are hopeful on capturing Boston striker Anthony Elding. The former Stevenage man has had an unsuccessful return to the club where he started his career and turned down a loan move to Chester for somewhere closer to his Lincolnshire home.
