Brightwell Departs Macclesfield

Manager Ian Brightwell and assistant Asa Hartford have left Macclesfield Town with immediate effect.

A statement from the club has announced Keith Alexander as the new manager on a contract until the end of the season. Brightwell was offered the opportunity to stay as manager with Alexander as his new assistant, but rejected the offer. The former Man City midfielder, in his first managerial role, won only seven of 38 games in charge.

The club have won only two of their last 18 matches, losing 3-0 to Peterboro at the weekend and slumping to just two points off the relegation spots. Alexander recently left Bury where he held the Director of Football role but was sacked along with manager Chris Casper after a poor run of results.
