The former Bulls player has appeared in several pre-season friendlies for the Valiants and seems to be close to a deal.
Manager, Micky Adams, has said he would like to add Taylor to his squad but any offer is subject to budget restrictions with suggestions of an initial non-contract deal being a possibility.
Adams is also looking at former Crewe keeper Stuart Tomlinson, with first choice Joe Anyon still recovering from last seasons leg fracture telling BBC Radio Stoke "We're in the driving seat, and if we could find some money from somewhere then we could get them."
Vale play their final PSF at Kidderminster on Saturday.
