Preview: Crewe vs Bulls

The Bulls travel north to face Crewe Alexandra in a League Two match on Saturday.

Since the Bulls returned to the Football League they have won three and drawn one of the six meetings with the Railwaymen, including winning both of last season's matches 1-0. Janos Kovacs' header on the opening day settled the match at Gresty Road, while Stuart Fleetwood's first half strike settled matters at Edgar Street in March.

The Railwaymen have shown signs of resurgence under new manager Steve Davis. The former Burnley defender wants to instill a harder work ethic and faster tempo into his inherited side, and has told the press this week that he needs the break that their FA Cup defeat has offered them to get the team up to scratch after accusing them of being not fit enough when he took over. Top scorer Shaun Miller has six, but hasn't scored in twelve games, while fellow youth team graduate Byron Moore has five. Such is the influence of their youth side this term is that twelve of their seventeen man matchday squad last weekend were graduates of the scheme.

The Bulls travel to Gresty Road looking to get back to winning ways after three losses in their last four matches. The management has persisted with playing a single forward, even at home, despite complaints from fans and that is unlikely to change for this away game. The hard working Nathan Elder is expected to be flanked by wide men Tom Barkhuizen and Steven Leslie, with Yoann Arquin and Delroy Facey both reportedly knocking hard on the door in training, and youngster Richard Peniket again netting for the reserves. With Adam Bartlett coming through the same reserve game in midweek, it will be the first time in several months that David Cornell has had a serious challenge for the keeper spot.

Crewe Alexandra vs Hereford United, Gresty Road, Saturday 26th November, 3.00pm.
