No Silverware For Disappointing Bulls

All Orange For The Bulls
Hereford United, in their new orange kit, failed to win their first cup game of the season when they lost out on penalties to Westfields at Allpay Park this evening.

The teams were level at full time and, as agreed beforehand, the game went straight to penalities with Westfields winning the shoot-out by 6 to 5.

Westfields took the lead after around 30 minutes.

The Bulls won a free kick but Westfields broke well and from around 25 yards Dan Polan unleased a great strike which took a deflection off Sam Gwynne.

Jake Harris Scored Hereford's Goal
Five minutes later Hereford equalised when trialist Jake Harris, the former Newport County striker, poked the ball past Jon Pugh from close range.

Michael Rankine With Chris Sharp
The Bulls made several  changes at half-time including the introduction of striker Michael Rankine but couldn't breach the stubborn Westfields defence.

Close to the end Jon Pugh kept Westfields in the game with an excellent save.

So to penalties.

Josh O'Keefe converted Hereford's first, Youth Team 'Cory' the second, then Pilkington.

However Chris Bush blazed over. Then Rankine and Leadbitter scored. But Dom Collins missed and Westfields, who only missed one penalty, won the cup.

515 watched the game.

Afterwards Hereford United's manager Martin Foyle noted 'a little bit of arrogance on our side which is something I'm going to stamp out'.

He also felt Joel Edwards 'was outstanding tonight'.

Starting XI:  Evans, Edwards, Collins, Graham, Gwynne, Pilkington, O'Keefe, Purdie, Harris, Walker, Sharp

Subs: McDonald, Rankine, Bush, 'Cory'.
