Alvechurch Aiming For Promotion

Midland League side Alvechurch are aiming for the top of the MFL Premier after poaching the management and players of a higher graded side.

The Worcestershire side have named Ian Long as their manager, poaching him from 13/14 Midland Alliance winners Tividale.

Tividale, currently of the Northern League Div 1 South, finished eighth in their division last season and only just survived being thrown out of the division after an appeal over a failed ground grading inspection, with Long and his management team dropping back down after being told their budget would be cut in half for the coming season.

Long moves across to the Lye Meadow side along with his assistant, two coaches, and a large number of his squad, many of which won the division with Tividale.

Long told the local press: “I want to win the league, that’s the target. We know it’s going to be tough but the squad I want to build will have the experience and know-how to compete. We want to go for it.

“The chairman has really big plans, he is ambitious and his ambitions match my own. We want to take Alvechurch to the next level.

“A lot of players will be coming from Tividale but I also want to give the Alvechurch lads the opportunity when pre-season starts, that’s only fair. However, they finished the season in 15th place so it’s clear we need to improve."
