Preen's Tackle Was 'Reckless Without A Doubt" Said Beadle.

After this evening's friendly against Gloucester, which ended 2-2 and a red card for Garyn Preen, Hereford manager Peter Beadle spoke to the media.

"I thought it was our best performance of pre-season," said Beadle.

"I thought it was a real competitive game.

"We looked at the friendlies and we've tried to plan it that as we get closer to the season we are playing teams like we are going to come up against.

"And Gloucester are a side with good players and it was a real good test for us tonight. And I thought we passed it with flying colours."

A lot of spectators weren't too impressed with some decisions by the referee which included a red card for Garyn Preen.

"It's his pre-season as well.

"I've just been in and spoken to him and I've apologised for some of the things I said to him.

"But I do think he got it a little bit wrong.

"We asked for common sense in his game. The tackle (Preen's) was reckless without a doubt and in a league game it probably would have been a red but also the reaction of one or two of their players could also have been a red.

"He said he didn't see the reaction properly and if he had seen hands on faces or whatever he would have dealt with it in the right way.

"If he had just come over and asked us to take him off, swap him over for someone else, it would have made it a better game.

"He felt if he didn't do that it would have made a precedent for others to lunge in with tackles. Fair enough that's his opinion, I don't agree with it. But I've been and spoke to him and we're all fine, all good.

"Hopefully it won't go any further now and nothing happens with Garyn going forward.

"The referee has dealt with it on the day. Obviously being a friendly and not a competitve game I don't think he has to do anything if he doesn't want to.

"I think it would be extremely harsh if he did and I think we look at the video and one or two of theirs in the way they reacted to it.

"If they hadn't reacted to it maybe the outcome might have been different but the way they reacted to it set a precedent as to what he had to do.

"It was a reckless challenge, both feet off the floor when he had no control, so that's a red card.

"He assued me he's dealt with it on the night and thayt'll be the end of it and hopefully he'll keep his word."

Beadle was very impressed with Harry Franklin who played right back as Jimmy Oates partnered Jack Deaman in the heart of the defence.

"Harry Franklin was absolutely fantastic tonight. What a good performance from a young 17 year old at right back.

"In a game like that with opposition like that he was great.

"He got a bit tired towards the end and started to get beat a little bit down that side but he dug in. Fantastic performance, what a great character from him.

"We had to make changes, we have lots of forwards in the group but have defenders and goalkeepers away on holiday or injured.

"We did contemplate not playing the game as we didn't have enough bodies but we managed to get through tonight without too many problems. I glad we did as it was a great workout  and the performance was really good, really solid towards the end, but just a shame we couldn't hang on for a win.

"Even with ten men the performance was good.

"First half I though we were good, front four were on the money and we could have gone in two or three ahead.

"It was no surprise that Tim (Harris) brought what I would call his heavy artillery second half as maybe he thought if he didn't do it the game might have got away from them.

"So credit to us as I thought we played exceptionally well first half but I thought they had a better second half and the lion's share went we went down to ten."

Ten Man Hereford Draw With Gloucester

Hereford drew 2-2 with National League South side Gloucester City at the Jubilee Stadium this evening.

The Bulls took the lead in the 14th minute after Jack Deaman headed the ball past the keeper, but Gloucester equalised through Karnell Chambers 21 minutes later.

Lance Smith then made it 2-1 from the penalty spot, but Will Morford netted a late goal for the hosts.

The Whites were reduced to ten-men in the second half after Garyn Preen was dismissed for a rash challenge.

Gloucester Won't Take Any Risks Tonight

Gloucester City manager Tim Harris has said that he won't do anything silly when his side host Hereford this evening.

"Hereford are a big club on their way back and it's great to seem," harris said as reported by Pitchero Non-League.

"It should be a really good test, I expect them to do very well in the Southern Premier next season after two great years.

"We've got one or two issues. Ethan Moore has bruising on his ankle and he won't play. We don't want to be doing anything silly at this stage."

Ex 'Keeper wins 'Spot the Ball' competition!

Winner of Spot the Ball Competition 4, HUST member from Coventry, Eugene Austin accompanied by his wife Jane, received a cheque for £61.50 from competition organiser Peter Davies at the Hereford FC Open Day on 29 July.

Ex goalkeeper Eugene played for Coventry Sporting in the Southern League against Hereford United the year after the Bulls famous victory over Newcastle United.  He later played for Bedworth United and Atherstone  Town.

Hearing of United's liquidation and the formation of Hereford FC, Eugene joined HUST and has supported the Trust's drive to gain a 50% shareholding in the club by participating in the Bulls 500 Club, Bulls Lotto, Spot the Ball Competition, and by making donations, including his winnings from the Spot the Ball Competition.

With several of Hereford FC's matches being nearer to Coventry in the coming season, Eugene is looking forward to backing the Bulls in several away matches as well as making the trip to Hereford whenever possible.

The current Spot the Ball Competition closes on Saturday 12 August.  Entry is easy via the HUST website (http://www.hufctrust.co.uk/hust-spot-the-ball/).  The more fans that take part, the greater the prize fund.  So why not have a go, and help the Trust raise funds to buy shares in the club?

Plummer Thanks Beadle For His Time With Hereford

Tristan Plummer has praised Hereford FC manager Peter Beadle in an article for the Non-League Paper.

Plummer signed for Weston earlier this week after turning down an offer to stay at Edgar Street.

"My time at Edgar Street was great," Plummer told the Non-League Paper.

"I heard how well the club did in their season in the Midland League and I was desperate to be involved in such a top set-up.

"I was over the moon when Peter Beadle signed me and I have nothing but good words to say about him to be honest!

"From the moment he showed me his plans last pre-season, I knew he had a vision to take the club back to the Football League and I had every confidence that we would emulate the successes of the first season which we eventually did do.

"This season is going to be a bit harder for the club, they will be against bigger teams and everyone will want to take their scalp of Hereford FC.

"It's going to be a tough one but I think under Beads the club has every chance of making it a trio of promotions come late-April."

In the same issue there is an interview with Carl Haffenden who is the supporter behind Hereford Goals.

Plummer Turns Down Deal At Hereford

Tristan Plummer has turned down an additional year with Hereford in favour of a return to Weston.

It will be the 27 year old's fourth spell with the Seagulls.

"I really wanted to come back to the club when I knew Marc and Rob were returning," said Plummer as reported by the Weston Mercury.

“I love working under both of them. They were great when I was here before. I turned down a further year at Hereford so I could come here and score goals.”

It Might Be More Difficult Than They Think Says Slough Manager

Slough Town are Hereford's opponents at Edgar Street on August 19th for what will be the first ever game between the clubs.

Manager Neil Baker is looking forward to the visit against the side whom the bookies feel could win the league.

"It's three tough games to start the season; against Kettering, Gosport Borough and then Hereford," said Baker.

"Hereford will be promotion favourites – they have come up and are well backed, but we'll have to see. It might be more difficult than they think.

"There'll be eight to 10 teams thinking they can compete at the top, so you just never know."

Gloucester Away Is At Evesham

Hereford Supporters At Evesham Last April
Hereford FC's next pre-season fixture is against Gloucester City on Monday evening, kick-off 7.45pm. Please note Gloucester now play at Evesham.

The game should be another good test for Peter Beadle's squad given Gloucester play in the National League South.

"They are playing in the League, like Telford, the one we want to get to," said Beadle.

"So it will be a good benchmark for us."

Admission to the friendly is: Adults £10, Concessions £5 and Juniors £1.

Postcode is WR11 2LS

Barker Joins FGR Academy

Former Hereford player Chris Barker has been appointed Assistant Manager at Forest Green Rovers' Academy.

Barker worked alongside the head of the academy, Scott Bartlett, at Weston-Super-Mare last season.

His appointment is one of a number of changes to the academy, which is a result of an increased budget thanks to FGR's promotion to the Football League.

Scott Bartlett, 38, told Gloucestershire Live about how the promotion will help the academy.

Bartlett said: "Moving to the EFL has really helped us to grow the Academy and will enable us to push it forward even more and have a bigger and better system.

"The lads will have a great opportunity to play against some fantastic football clubs and it can only benefit us because we're playing with and against better players, in better facilities and with full time staff.

"So for a young player now, it's an exciting time to be a part of the club."

Ollie Davies Trials With Bath

Ollie Davies who joined Hereford for a couple of weeks before quitting is on trial with Bath.

He had told Hereford manager Peter Beadle that he was moving to either Yeovil or Newport.

But having played a couple of pre-season games for Yeovil he wasn't involved in their friendly against Bristol Rovers on Tuesday.

Last night Bath played Bristol Rovers and Davies played for ninety minutes in the Bath goal.

Three Players Took Knocks Last Night

Three Hereford players took knocks last night during the game against Cardiff City so manager Peter Beadle will be glad he has a couple of players returning from holiday before the next friendly against Gloucester on Monday.

"Hopefully we have Symons and Dinsley back so it will give us a few more body as there is a bit of strain on the ones at the moment because they are having to play so many minutes.

"Purdie felt his hamstring a little bit, we'll know more tomorrow,

"Macca jarred his ankle when the lad caught him on the edge of the box that will probably take 24 to 48 hours to settle down. Hopefully by Monday he should be okay but we'll see.

"Reffell I think he's fine, it was just a kick.

"I think outside of that it's just the usual stuff.

"But Purds and Macca are our two main concerns at the minute. Purds with his hamstring and obviously he's not getting any younger it will take a bit longer to recover for him.

"Macca the same, he just jarred his ankle. He said he felt it last season so there's already a weakness there. Hopefully it will settle down and he'll be fine."

Throwback Thursday - Boston 4-3, Chis Fry, Rob Elmes

Lets start with a memorable win from 18th February 2002. Hereford were away to Boston who needed to win to go top of the league. The Bulls were injury ravaged and drafted in Jon Hill from Kington town to partner Ian Wright in defence. Phil Robinson's side were 2-0 down early on, but pulled off a brilliant performance to come away with a 4-3 win. This also features Boston manager Steve Evans storm off from the after match interview.

The best of series features Chris Fry. Signed from Cardiff City in the summer of 91. Fry stayed at Edgar Street for two and a half seasons. He left on Christmas Eve 1993 to join Colchester, and later played for Exeter, Barry and Haverfordwest . Fry now lives in Newport and his son Josh played for Motherwell last season.

Lets head back to November 1999. The club's mascot then was Rembrandt who was paraded around the pitch, we also get to see the Swede Worshippers doing there thing at Edgar Street. Rob Elmes is also featured ahead of the FA Cup 2nd round tie against Hartlepool.

Beadle - Tonight Was A Bit Disappointing

Peter Beadle Chats To A Cardiff Player Just Before Kick-off
After this evening 5-1 defeat by Cardiff City, Hereford manager Peter Beadle spoke to the assorted media.

"We didn't expect the result but we expected the type of game we got.

"We had a really good spell for about ten or fifteen minutes after they scored. Got our goal back and we thought we would have gone on again but it didn't quite happen.

"And we got punished.

"I said to them before it's another challenge for us because they train every day, they'll be sharp, they'll be bright, they'll be quick amd what they will do is punish us for any mistakes we make.

"And that's exactly what they did today. They punished us for every little thing we did if we were not in the right position or we gave away a simple pass. We just didn't pick things up in time today.

"There's many factors that could into it. All our players are part-time so they've all had work today whereas these lot are fresh and they've come and prepared properly.

"We've had to do it the other way around and work hard.  The last thing you want when you've done a full days work is chasing a 21 year old who is like a whippet anyway.

"But it's exactly what we needed, we need a game like that to square us off, to give us that focal point.

"Even take all that aside I thought we were disappointing especially after we had a decent spell.

"We looked lightweight, we didn't look bright, we didn't look sharp and I can't understand why.

"I thought Saturday was a real tough game. But we are short on numbers, four are away at the moment, we didn't want to work them too hard before the game tonight so they have been off since Saturday so they should have rested well and recovered from any knocks.

"But for whatever reason it wasn't our night performance wise.

"The result is irrelevent, it's awful I know but look at the players they've had out, Kennedy, these players have played in the Championship and the Premiership, some of them.

"And that was the difference, they showed their class and they were backed up really well by some of their younger players. I thought they did really well tonight."

Cardiff looked clinical in front of goal.

"Exactly that, they punished us, their first goal down the side, the two centre halves have got a little bit caught out and the lad has gone throught the middle of them. One across the face of goal, a little bit unlucky who was going to get the first tough on it,  but he just got his toe in. Then the deflection.

"You could go through all of them, pick things out but you have to remember who we are playing against. These lads train every single day on exactly the things like that, balls flashing across the box, rebounds, keepers spilling one.

"It was a great workout for us again but we are light in numbers and that's tough as in tough on the players. Some have played 90 minutes Saturday and some ninety minutes tonight but it's good preparation and just the game we needed and probably the result we needed just to re-focus us.

"We need to go again now and we'll prepare properly for Monday with a couple of sessions between now and then."

Beadle has brought in WBA keeper Ethan Ross as cover for Martin Horsell.

"I thought he didn't have much of a chance with too many of the goals.  What he did do he looked quite good.

"We'll have another look at him on Monday and see where we go from there.

"He will have loved the experience of getting out and playing in a proper game and hopefully he'll do the same on Monday.

"In general I thought his play was pretty good.

"We're probably looking to do something longer term. There are not a hugh number of keepers around that we could easily pick up. They've all been signed up clubs because we are so close to the start of the season.

"The other option is could we take Ethen for a little bit longer. West Brom are happy but it just depends what we do with him after he's had a couple of games.

"He did quite well today. He's a good size and outside of the goals which he didn't have much chance with he did quite well. He had a decent start."

Some positives for Hereford?

"We had to be careful with Lance Smith as he was blowing a bit first half, I think he had a stitch in the first half  but that can happen when you miss so many games.

"So we got an hour out of him which is good but he was flagging towards the end. We didn't want to risk any injuries with him so we brought him off after an hour.

"I thought Keyon was lively tonight. I thought he played extremely well tonight.

"Outside of that I think it was a bit of a disappointing performance and, I don't know, it lacked a bit of heart or something. There wasn't that fire there that we had on Saturday.

"Whether it was a Wednesday night, or the opposition we've played, or the lads have been at work or they are feeling a bit leggy maybe, I don't know.

"But it's pre-season. It would have been lovely to have put on a sparkling performance and beat them 5-1 but it was never about that and tonight was a bit disappointing."

Next on Monday is Gloucester City.

Hereford 1 - Cardiff City U23s 5

Rob Purdie Captained Hereford
Hereford hosted Cardiff City’s Development Squad at Edgar Street on Wednesday evening with three first team players making the trip. Welsh International Declan John, winger Craig Noone and midfielder Stuart O’Keefe all started in what was expected to be Hereford’s toughest preseason test to date.

The Bulls got the encounter underway attacking towards the Blackfriars End in the first half, but it was the visitors who drew first blood. After some good passing football down the left, Declan John’s cross was met by Matthew Kennedy at point-blank range to open the scoring.

The Whites weren't behind for long as eight minutes later Mark Preece equalised. A Pablo Haysham free kick from 30-yards was flicked on by Preece. Despite the keeper getting his hand to the ball, it wasn’t enough to prevent the centre-back from scoring his first goal of preseason.

Greg Preece Scored Hereford's Goal From A Pablo Haysham Free-Kick
New-recruit goalkeeper Ethan Ross then palmed away Craig Noone’s shot from an acute angle, but the resulting corner was efficiently dealt with my Mike McGrath.

On the half hour mark, the Bluebirds scored their second courtesy of Declan John. After Mark Preece intercepted a pass from Stuart Preece, the ball fell to John who had little trouble in striking it low past Ross with his right-foot.

A third goal for the visitors followed two minutes later. A solo-run from Ibrahim Meite resulted in Ross charging off his line, but Meite coolly slotted the ball across the face of goal and in at the far post.
Meite could've had a second moments later, but the keeper beat him to the ball, punching away a powerful cross.

Two minutes from half time, a rasping shot from Keyon Reffell was turned away with a strong hand from Brian Murphy.

HT: Hereford 1 - Cardiff City U23s 3

Early in the second half, Hereford were forced into making their first change of the game after Rob Purdie was replaced by Garyn Preen. Purdie left the field limping with what appeared to be a hamstring problem.

The Bulls looked the brighter of the two sides after the restart, with a number of good saves by 34-year old keeper Murphy. Firstly, James Bowen cut in from left wing, but he saw his shot palmed away by Murphy.

After Hereford worked the ball back into the box, Jimmy Oates was unlucky to see his athletic effort was tipped over the bar.

In the 62nd minute, a tame shot from Keyon Reffell was easily gathered by the keeper, before Garyn Preen also went close with two chances.

Garyn Preen
Murphy continued his fine performance, tipping a rising shot from 18-yards over the bar, and somehow getting a hand to a shot from distance to push it around the post.

The Bluebirds then put the game to bed as they added goals four and five to the tally. In the 75th minute, Ross spilled the ball under pressure from Ibrahim Meite, and Craig Noone was on hand to curl the ball home into the back of an unguarded net.

Five minutes later, Noone scored his second of the evening. After evading a challenge from Keyon Reffell, Noone worked the ball onto his favoured left-foot before his powerful shot took a deflection off Mark Preece on its way into the back of the net.

Substitute John Mills couldn’t reduce the deficit in the dying stages of the game, his overhead kick from James Bowen’s cross was denied by the upright.
