114 In 114 For Mills

Hereford striker John Mills spoke to BBC Hereford and Worcester after today's 2-0 win over Hornchurch at Edgar Street. He scored a goal which takes his tally to 114 goals in 114 matches.

"It was good to get through," said Mills.

"The main thing was to get the result and get through to the next round.

"Leaves us one more to go so I hope we get a nice draw on Monday.

"Nice to get a couple of goals and another clean sheet.

"They were very organised, a big physical side.

"First 15 minutes they brought the game to us so we had to hang on in there but to be fair going against the wind and up the hill I thought we dealt with it quite well.

"We knew if we went in at half-time 0-0 we would have a very good chance second half and to be fair we pushed on straight away in the second half."

Keith Hall asked Mills what it was like playing alongside Lance Smith.

"I don't think we are that similar.

"He's mobile, he's quick, he's strong, he takes a lot of the work off me, I don't do too much when he's there! It's nice, a bit different.

"We've got Simmo and Pablo on the bench. It doesn't matter who plays it's going to be a strong line-up.

"It is enjoyable playing with someone who can run in behind, comes short, it adds a different dimension.

"Preen has come on leaps and bounds. He took a while to get going but the last five or six games he's unbelievable. Scoring goals left, right and center. He's beating his man a lot more and we hope that will continue for him."

Mills was asked about the penalty.

"He's come diving in, I took a touch when I probably should have shot first time but I managed to get the shot away and as he's come diving in his hand have come above his head.

"My point of view the ref had no choice as it was going on target. So we'll take it and it gave us a two goal cushion and then we ground out the result quite well.

"Because of the video footage they've got here I imagine Hornchurch had done their homework to see which way I go. Their keeper got a little hand to it but luckily I struck it hard enough."

Hall reminded Mills of the stat of him scoring 114 goals in 114 games.

"As a striker you always know how many goals you've scored, how many you want to score. I'm no different.

"Everyone knows the main part of my game is scoring goals and as long as I do enough for the team then that's the most important thing but the goals are a nice little bonus.

"It's been drilled into me a little bit that I do need to offer a bit more, goals aren't just enough, I must do other things defensively, make some runs which is not comfortable for me but I'm happy to do that as long as I'm playing."

On Wednesday night at Frome Mills scored a spectactular goal and some described it as a 'Chinese Volley'.

"I've never heard of it," said Mills.

"I've had a word since and no way is that a 'Chinese Volley'.

"It's probably the cleanest goal I've ever scored, it's surprising that the Gaffer was trying to take it away from me like that but it's fine, it was a bit of a joke. I let it slide.

"It was probably one of my better goals since I've been here. I don't scotre too many good ones, they are usually in and around the box."

Hornchurch Made It Really Difficult Said Beadle

Hereford manager Peter Beadle spoke to the local media after this afternoon's 2-0 win over Hornchurch in the FA Cup.

"They made it really difficult," said Beadle.

"They came with a really good record, seven wins in the league and every FA cup game they've won.

"They've not conceeded many goals and could see today why. They were really well organised and obviously first half with the blocks and throwing themselves in the way of things you can see why they are doing so well in their league.

"I think they came to try and stifile us anyway, apart from a few set pieces they weren't a hugh threat from open play.

"I thought we controlled the game first half for long periods but without having that little of quality in the final third.

"We've had a couple flash across the goal-line, Lance has had across the goal, Keyon have had one across the goal but we didn't quite get the following finishing touches on it.

"So at half time we asked for them to have a little bit more poise, a little bit more quality in the final third, keep the ball moving and in the end we got what we deserved.
Peter Beadle Talking To His Squad After Today's Game
"Again we've had some more chances, we've hit the bar, Lance was unfortunate with his one which didn't quite travel quick enough for him to get his shot away.

"We're really pleased, it was a really good performance against a good side, they don't go seven games unbeaten in their league being a poor side. I'm sure they'll continue that and go into the league above next season.

"We set up to try and play, we want to play at a really good tempo because I think if we can play at that sort of tempo as we did last Saturday and again on Wednesday and as we did for long periods today teams will find it difficult against us.

"We need to have that energy and we need to be fit and ready for that and we've shown that over the past three or four weeks now when we're starting to get some momentum so we want to keep it going.

"It's nothing less than I thought we could achieve because that's why the players are here and we're reaping the benefits of it now, it's another clean sheet, that's three or four on the bounce now.

"So we're really pleased where we are at the minute, delighted to get through to the next round, it's as far as we've been in the competition after last year.

"We're breaking new bounderies and we hope we can get a nice draw at home in the next round."

Keyon Reffell and John Mills with a penalty scored for Hereford. What did Beadle make of the penalty?

"All I know is that Lance did absolutely fantastic to get it, he never gave up on anything in there, it looks like the chap slide and caught it with his hand maybe to stop it running through for a chance on goal.

"It was obviously pretty clear as the referee gave it straight away. But I can't see it from that far away.

"I like another home draw in the next round, sometimes a lower ranked team is worse than a higher ranked or even in the same league.

"We're playing extremely well at the moment home and away so ideally we would love to be at home but right now we would be ready to face anybody that comes along in the draw.

"We would like to have a little bit of luck and have a nice home draw against a team we would feel comfortable with but it's the FA Cup and that's what makes it so great.

"Whatever draw we get we'll take it and prepare for it but we've got a couple of league games in-between."

Beadle said that there were no significent injuries today.

"I think Keyon got a whack on his ankle as did Lance in the first half but they are just kicks opposed to anything too serious so hopefully everybody will be fit for Saturday."

After today's fixtures in the Southern Prem Hereford remain in fourth place.

"Ideally it's nice to keep up with the games, you don't want to have to chase too many games, but as we found in our first season that's the downfall of having good cup runs.

"We're going to be a couple of games behind now that through this round but as long as it stays only a couple of games and we don't lose too much distance. Obviously I'd rather have the points in the bag rather than the games to play but if that's the case and teams around us have dropped points today then that's good for us."

Hornchurch manager Jimmy McFarlane after match interview

I managed to grab a brief chat with Hornchurch manager Jimmy McFarlane before they departed on the coach for the long journey back to Essex.

Bulls a Step Closer to the First Round

Hereford took a step closer to reaching the first round proper of the FA Cup as they beat AFC Hornchurch 2-0 at Edgar Street this afternoon.

In the second half, Keyon Reffell opened the scoring before John Mills added a second from the spot.

Hereford will be in the draw for the Fourth Qualifying Round.

More later.

Peter Churchus - Short Profile

Few Hereford supporters will know the name Peter Churchus who has just been appointed as a director of the club.

Here a short profile taken from holidaybreak.co.uk:

Educated at Hereford High School for Boys, Peter trained as a Chartered Accountant at a local firm in Hereford who were auditors of PGL. After qualifying, Peter joined PGL in 1976 as Company Accountant, made Company Secretary in 1978 and became the Financial Director 2 years later. By the age of 29, Peter was responsible for both the marketing, finances and the IT function of the Group. Obtained an MBA from Warwick University and eventually became Group Managing Director.

Peter left PGL in 1995 to set up his own company, Totally Trains. It has a shop in Ross-on-Wye but is primarily a mail order business. It is now one of the leading model railway businesses in the country. (Later he sold out to AC Models of Eastleigh.) During 1995 to 1998 Peter also worked at Skiers World which was the leading provider of school skiing holidays to North America.

Peter rejoined PGL as Finance Director in 2003, becoming acting Managing Director for 9 months prior to the appointment of Martin Davies, driving the acquisition of 3D Education and Adventure. Peter was appointed Finance Director of the Education Division upon its formation in February 2008.

Peter's interests are his family (3 children), railway modelling, cooking, and a long standing and unhealthy passion for Hereford United.

Two New Directors At Hereford FC

The names of two new directors have been confirmed by Hereford FC.

This from the club:

Hereford FC is pleased to announce the appointment of two new Directors to fill the vacancies created by the departures of Mike Cole and Phil Eynon.
The first new Director has been named as Paul Quarrell, who has previously been working in a non-executive role as Stadium Director.
Paul Quarrell
Paul, who is Managing Director at local building firm William Powell & Sons, will move to an executive role on the board with immediate effect and will continue to lead on all stadium and safety related matters.
He follows in the steps of his late Grandfather, John Jackson, who was a Director of Hereford United for 3 decades before stepping down in 1988. Paul is very much looking forward to the new challenges and responsibilities ahead.

Replacing Mike Cole as Financial Director and Company Secretary will be Peter Churchus, who lives in Ross-On-Wye and has been a Hereford fan since 1970.
Having trained as an Accountant in Hereford over 40 years ago, Peter currently holds the position of Group Financial Director for the Holidaybreak Education Division, which specialises in children’s holidays and tours. The Division includes PGL, which is based in Ross, a business he first became involved in in 1972.
In his Group role, Peter is responsible for teams of finance staff in different subsidiary companies and he has great experience of strategy and business planning. During his working life, he has also held Managing Director and Marketing Director positions, as well as running his own business until he was enticed back to PGL.
Peter – who is a Hereford FC shareholder – is very excited to have been appointed to the role of Financial Director at Edgar Street and is not only looking forward to doing all he can to contribute to the club’s future success, but also to ‘getting back to hands on accountancy work!’.
Everyone at the club would like to wish Paul and Peter all the very best in their new voluntary positions.

A49 Closed Near Edgar Street

Hereford supporters travelling to this afternoon's match along the A49 are reminded that the road is closed southbound between Mortimer Road and the Edgar Street roundabout.

Meanwhile for those unable to watch the game in person both Radio Hereford FC and BBC Hereford and Worcester will have full match commentary.

Five Southern Prem Fixtures This Afternoon

Whilst Hereford and some other teams play FA Cup ties this afternoon, there is a limited programme of fixtures inthe Southern Premier League.

Basingstoke v Redditch
Biggleswade v Farnborough
Gosport v Hitchin
St Ives v Merthyr
Tiverton v St Neots

As none of the top four have a league game, it's possible that Redditch and Tiverton could move up the table above Hereford who are currently fourth.

A win would propell Redditch to second position, and a win for Tiverton (if Redditch win) could move them to fourth.

Morris 'Over The Moon' To Resign Molyneux

Jamie Molyneux
Westfields chief executive Andy Morris has told BN that he is 'over the moon' to have resigned Jamie Molyneux.

The 22 year old winger was released by Hereford yesterday.

"As soon as Hereford FC announced they had released Jamie our manager Sean Edwards was on the case and we both agreed we would be keen to get Jamie back at Westfields," said Morris.

"Sean and I meet tonight and Sean then arranged to meet Jamie and the deal was done.

"It will give the whole team a big lift he was a popular player and a superb goal scorer with us last year and I am sure he will settle in as though he has not been away.

"Our manager Sean Edwards has done well to sought out the move so quickly."

Meanwhile Molyneux has also commented on his move.

"I had a lot of offers from teams at the same level as Hereford but I’m a man of my word. I just need to play in comfortable surroundings."

Molyneux is expected to be in Westfields squad for their game at Sporting Kalsa tomorrow.

Hereford 3/5 To Defeat Hornchurch

We're Not Massive Underdogs Says Hornchurch Manager

Ahead of tomorrow's FA Cup tie at Edgar Street, Hornchurch manager Jim McFarlane doesn't think they are 'massive underdogs'.

“I’ve been reading loads on the internet and on social media that we’re massive underdogs, I don’t buy that. Yes, we’re the underdog, but not a massive underdog,” McFarlane told the Romford Recorder.

“If we win there, which I think we’re more than capable of, I don’t think it would be classed as a giant-killing.

“Yes, they’re in a higher league and they’re a good side, but so are we, so we won’t be holding any fear.

“My assistant manager went down on Saturday and watched them at Weymouth, to give us a good indication of what we’re up against and we’ll work on a few things in training to counteract what he watched.

“We’ve also had a couple of reports from managers in the same league that I know, so our preparation has been good.

“We’re going down tonight, the club have paid for us to travel and stay over night to give us every fighting chance.”

O'Shea Could Miss Several Games For Hereford

Hereford defender Dara O'Shea has been named in the Irish squad for the forthcoming UEFA U19 Championships Qualifying Round mini-tournament which takes place from October 4 to October 10th in South East Ireland.

It could mean that he will miss the home game against Dorchester next Saturday October 7th and the away game at Banbury on October 10th.

Luckily for manager Peter Beadle,  Jack Deaman appears to be fit again and will probably be selected in place of O'Shea.

Preview: Hereford vs AFC Hornchurch

Ben Chilman previews tomorrow's game for BN:

This Saturday the Bulls host Hornchurch at Edgar Street in the third qualifying round of the FA Cup.

The Bulls climbed to fourth spot Wednesday evening following their 3-0 win over Frome Town in which was their 45th away league game without defeat. The goals came through Garyn Preen’s spilt shot, a terrific strike from John Mills and a converted cross by Keyon Reffell.

In Peter Beadle’s post-match interview, he spoke about Mills’ goal.

“It was a fantastic goal and I'm not criticising John, I'll get that out now, but the lads did say it was a Chinese volley.

"It touched every part of his leg before it rolls down to his foot.

“On Saturday and today I think you've seen contenders for goal of the season. Saturday James's strike was phenomenal and today that little ball from Calvin and the volley from John was top class.”

With the Bulls in fine form with an unbeaten run stretching to seven games in all competitions, Beadle praised the depth of his squad last weekend at Weymouth.

“We've got a squad that's competitive. Pablo and Bird have travelled down today and missed out today. Dan Preston wasn't here today and Jamie Molyneux wasn't here today and they are all fit.”

While Haysham and Bird might still be on the bench this weekend, Jamie Molyneux definitely won’t be.

Jamie Molyneux playing against Lads Club preseason

Earlier this week Beadle released both him and Bradley Williams, two young players in need of games that the Bulls couldn’t provide.

Beadle still continues to search for a third keeper to add to the squad.
The Bulls have reached this round with two rather convincing score lines to their name. While a 4-0 win in the last round against Kempston Rovers and an 8-0 win against Godalming were comfortable victories, this tie promises to be more of a challenge.

AFC Hornchurch play in the Bostik League North Division. They are the only team in steps 1-4 to have a 100% league record, seven games, seven wins.

Hornchurch’s defence have the best record in Bostik North, conceding only four goals so far in this year’s campaign.

The Urchins have an impressive strike force too. Brad Warner and George Purcell both have 6 goals each so far this season. However, in an eventful last round, Purcell is suspended after being sent off during the game.

Last weekend Jim McFarlane’s side extended their winning run to 11 games as two first half goals from Nathan Cooper and Kenzer Lee claimed the points at Norwich United.

If Saturday’s match is level at full time, the replay will be on Tuesday night at Bridge Avenue, a 400 mile round trip, so let’s hope the job can be done this weekend!

3pm KO.

New Boss for Second Bottom Side Gosport

Gosport Borough have announced Mick Catlin as their new manager, after Alex Pike left the club last week.

Catlin, who has previously been assistant manager at the Hampshire-based club, has most recently been in temporary charge at Winchester City.

Gosport currently sit just above bottom-side Dunstable in the table, and entertain Hitchin at home tomorrow.

Chairman Iain Sellstrom said Catlin was the right man for the job.

In a statement, Sellstrom said: "Mick knows the club, is under no illusions as to what he has to work with, has in depth football knowledge and contacts.

"We decided he was the right fit for us.

"He knows the club, knows the people and players involved and given our circumstances at present, this was always an advantage.

"I look forward to working with him."

Hornchurch Visit Edgar Street Tomorrow

Hornchurch travel to Hereford tomorrow for a FA Cup tie at Edgar Street.

Here's how their supporters association have previewed the game.

With no match in midweek, as our game against Ware was postponed as they had a county cup match to slot in, we now make the 400-mile round trip on Saturday to Hereford, a ground we have never been to before.
We played Hereford United in the fourth qualifying round of the FA Cup in 2013, and were denied a replay with a goal in the third minute of stoppage time, which many considered to be offside, and which resulted from a move that was started by a player who had just a few minutes earlier escaped a second yellow card!
Bentley and Purcell both played in this match, along with Styles, but for Elliot is was not a match he would want to remember, as he was shown a red card just five minutes into the second half following a mistimed tackle.
The Hereford we are playing this time is not the same one, as the original club was wound up in the High Court after a petition had been brought against it by HM Revenue and Customs, in December 2014.
The current club, Hereford FC, play at the same stadium as the original Hereford United, and the record attendance was 18,114, set up in 1958 for an FA Cup match against Sheffield Wednesday.
The ground has been greatly reduced in capacity since then, and now holds 5,300, and they have an impressive average attendance this season of over 2,000.
There is strict segregation at Edgar Street, and our own supporters will be housed along the side known as the Len Weston stand and terrace. Car parking is an expensive £5, but there is little choice as the surrounding area is for residents only.
If Saturday’s match is drawn, the replay will be on Tuesday at Bridge Avenue. Otherwise we will be at home to Grays Athletic in the Isthmian League. Grays are currently in 20th position in the table, with two wins from their seven matches, and last Saturday they lost to Hertford Town, who scored the only goal of the game in the final minute.
So it’s off to Hereford this weekend and back at the Bridge on Tuesday, against either Hereford in a replay, or Grays in the league.

Beadle Looks Forward To Hornchurch

Hereford manager Peter Beadle is looking forward to the visit of Hornchurch to Edgar Street in the FA Cup tomorrow.

"Hornchurch are unbeaten in the League so far, or in any game so far.

"And they obviously got to this round in the cup so they are doing really well in that as well.

"It's been difficult to get to watch them. They were to have a game on Tuesday night but it was postponed as the team they were playing had a County Cup game.

"So that was unfortunate as we didn't have a chance to look at them.

"Fortunately for me I know a few people down that neck of the woods and so we've got a few bits on them.

"But again as we always say it's about what we do, how we approach the game. And if we approach it in the right manner and play like we have done over the last few days then they are going to have to play extremely well to get something out of the game."

Beadle can have seven substitutes for the game tomorrow.

"I get told off if I put seven subs on the bench by my football secretary (laughter). It gives us an option to put more on the bench if we need to  but we can only use three so why do we need seven?

"We'll probably go with five. We did go with seven at Kempston but you look at the bench at Frome. We had a centre-half, a midfielder, a striker, a winger and a goalkeeper so we had all options.

"We'll see how the boys are, hopefully they had no knocks (at Frome) and we had nothing from Saturday other than a bit of tiredness.

"Overall we are where we are right now, the players are playing extremely well, a real high standard and we couldn't have asked any more especially from two away games, two tough away games as well."

Club Shop Open From 10am

Hereford FC's club shop will be open from 10am this morning for the sale of tickets for tomorrow's FA Cup game against Hornchurch.

Meanwhile online sales continue until 9am tomorrow.

Tomorrow tickets will be on sale at Edgar Street from 12 noon.

Molyneux And Williams Leave Edgar Street

Jamie Molyneux
Jamie Molyneux and Bradley Williams have been released by manager Peter Beadle.

"Both of them are good young players but they’re at an age where they need to be getting regular games – and that isn’t going to happen here right now" Beadle told the OS.

“Jamie’s relocated to Birmingham since he originally signed and he probably needs to get a club closer to home to suit his work and home needs. Brad just needs to focus on one club and get himself a good season in.”

Bradley Williams
Molyneux joined Hereford from Westfields last year whilst Williams originally joined Hereford United when it was run by Agombar and Lonsdale in 2014 and rejoined last year.

Meanwhile Beadle continues to look for a goalkeeper to add to his squad.

Jake Sinclair Joins Mangotsfield

Jake Sinclair At Edgar Street
Former Hereford winger Jake Sinclair has joined up with Mangotsfield.

Now 22, Sinclair was with Frome before signing for Hereford last August.

However his opportunities were limited at Edgar Street and he was seldom in the starting line-up.

Mangotsfield manager Wayne Throne appears pleased to have signed Sinclair.

"Jake is excited to join the club and prove how good he is. He will be a huge asset for the strikers, with his ability to take defenders on and provide crosses."

U18's draw with Lye

Hereford U18's drew 2-2 last night away at Lye Town. Hereford's goals were scored by Hayes and Hockey.

Manager Steve Saunders gave his reaction following the draw "Not our best performance. We created so many chances but only converted 2. Even more disappointing to throw away a 2 goal lead."

Hereford: Powell, Hurst, Smith, A.Thomas, Peeters-Vanstone, Jones, J.Marston, Hayes, Firkin, Preece and Lancett. Subs: Godsall, Hockey, Davies and L.Marston.

Hereford are currently 7th in the Midland Floodlit Youth League Premier Division South. They host Alvechurch on Monday evening (02/10) at Hereford Lads Club. Kick off is 7:45pm.

We've Had A Tough Couple Of Weeks Travelling Said Beadle

In his post match interview at Frome last night, Hereford FC manager Peter Beadle said that his squad had had a tough couple of weeks on the road.

"We've had some long trips and whilst this is not one of the longest, it's a difficult one to get to in the middle of nowhere." said Beadle.

"The grass is extra long, I expect they left it like that on purpose, fortunately we've had some rain on it which made it a bit quicker than it would have been.

"We've had a couple of weeks of travelling and to have put in the performances we have done, I'm really pleased."

Lance Smith started the game in place of Mike Symons.

"The big man is been a bit tired, three games in a week last week, Saturday, Wednesday, Saturday and he was a bit tired on Saturday. So I thought to freshen it up as Lance is there and it gave him an opportunity to come in and get some minutes under his belt.

"Everyone is contributing now. Page came on and looked sharp.

"We changed the shape in the last ten minutes just to have a look at it and to get Jack on and give him some minutes as well.

"That's why we need the squad we have, both to be competitive and when someone is not quite at it or needs a bit of a rest we've got quality waiting to come on into the side."

Throwback Thursday - Forest Green 2-2 Hereford United

Beadle Pleased With Another Three Points.

Hereford manager Peter Beadle gave his reaction to his side's 3-0 win at Frome.

"We needed that first goal because obviously you always want to get that breakthrough," said Beadle.

"It was fortunate, a mistake by the keeper but I thought we were good value for the lead at the time.

"Then the two goals after that were really well worked goals.

"And again on another day with a little of luck in front of goal we could have had a few more first half.

"On Saturday and today I think you've contenders for goal of the season. Saturday James's strike was phenomenal and today that little ball from Calvin and the volley from John was top class.

"It was a fantastic goal and I'm not criticising John, I'll get that out now, but the lads did say it was a Chinese volley - it touched every part of his leg before it rolls down to his foot.

"Great movement, great passing and a fantastic finish.

"3-0 at half time, we talked, we've been here before, back to Stratford a few weeks ago, very comfortable first half and we were in control of the game then we let ourselves slip a little bit.

"Tonight we asked them to be more focused, more disciplined second half and they did that.

"Frome were never a threat second half  and we had a few half chances but it did become a nothing game, a bit flat, perhaps because we were so much in control."

Bulls ease past Frome

Hereford FC put in an excellent first half performance to ease past Frome Town 3-0 in the Southern League Premier. After a promising start from the hosts, it was instead the visitors who took the lead through Garyn Preen's spilt shot. John Mills added a superbly took second before Keyon Reffell tapped in a third just before the break. 531 fans were present at the Special Effect Stadium as Hereford move up to fourth.

After the two nil away win on the weekend, there was one change to the starting line up. Mike Symons fell to the bench with Lance Smith replacing him up top.

Frome had a couple of early opportunities as they began brightly; a flicked header from an curling left-foot free-kick fell off-target, and an ambitious 40 yard free-kick narrowly missing Martyn Horsell's cross-bar before Hereford began to get hold of the ball and stamp their mark on the game. It took until midway point of the first half for the visitors to register their first shot on target but it was the one that opened the scoring. A deep cross from the byline by Calvin Dinsley was only cleared as far as Preen and after evading one challenge, he cut back and unleashed a hopeful 20 yard shot goalwards which appeared to be bread and butter for the 'keeper but on the slippery surface, the ball squirmed under him and over the line.

The home side reacted well with a dangerous run by their right-winger saw him burst away from challenges from James Bowen and Ryan Green, but a left-foot shot was easily gathered by Horsell at his near-post. In the 35th minute, Hereford doubled their advantage courtesy of the ever reliable Mills. Dinsley battled well in the middle of the park to win the ball after an aerial challenge and he lofted a first-time pass over the head of the centre-half where Mills was waiting to expertly direct a full-volley in off the post from just inside the box.

Five minutes later and Hereford were three to the good, this time Reffell netting. Bowen's zipped pass found Preen on the left, who left his marker for dead before crossing low into the six yard area where Reffell got his foot to the ball to touch home.

Preen and Reffell then had half-chances to add a fourth at the end of the first period were off target with right-footed efforts.

With a 3-0 advantage at the break, Hereford could be forgiven for taking their foot off the gas in the second period, with the final 45 minutes fairly routine. Mills tried his luck with another volley this time after Preen had chipped a pass into his path but he was a foot wide of the post. Various subs were made by both teams, with Hereford introducing Symons, Adam Page and Jack Deaman, in place of Smith, Preen and Reffell respectively. Deaman's first touch, or lack of it, nearly cost Hereford a goal as the home side's own sub had a shot in on goal but he could only fire at Horsell.

A free-kick by Frome's number 7 was held by Horsell, before Hereford's Dara O'Shea looked to be caught by an elbow in an off the ball incident. A mini fracas broke out on the pitch in the aftermath, with the eventual decision a yellow card for Frome's 14 and Jimmy Oates. In the final moments, Oates roamed forward and slipped in Page, but the Cheltenham loanee took too long to compose himself and his eventual shot was deflected behind for a corner from a promising position.

It was an encouraging performance by the ever-growing in confidence Hereford, at a Frome side who have started the season well. There's a nice balance to the Bulls' line-up at present, with the defensive line looking settled and plenty of pace in the final third. There were a number of good performances this evening; both Preen and Reffell were adventurous, constantly causing problems for the home side's full-backs and grabbing a goal each, but my man of the match goes to young O'Shea, who at the tender age of 18, won every header against his man, and was excellent in possession throughout.

Next up for Hereford is the visit of AFC Hornchurch in the FA Cup third qualifying round in what promises to be a tough proposition for Peter Beadle's men.
